about christchurch
You will find Christchurch to be like a large market town, despite its 350,000 inhabitants. Although it's the largest city on the South Island it retains very easy access to the coast and rural hinterland. Sport is very important to the inhabitants of Christchurch. Not just participation, which is huge, but spectating too.
Not that the cultural side of things is ignored. We routinely have loads of international acts play here, there are lots of theatres, libraries and public gardens. All this and you can drive 20mins from the central city and be in a cafe on the crator rim of an extinct (fortunately) volcano watching the sun setting on the Canterbury Plains with the snow-capped Southern Alps in the distance.
