  • Fracture Management

The goal of fracture management is to restore the anatomy back to its normal or near to normal as possible. Historically fracture management was the sole domain of the hospital but Riccarton Clinic offers fracture management for their own patients and general practice patients should they elect to be managed here.

  • Stabilisation before ED referral

Riccarton Clinic's clinicians are highly trained and experienced in urgent care medicine but occasionally a patient may present with a condition that is best dealt with in hospital. For these patients we try to stabilise their condition, if possible, and prepare them for hospital admission whilst they await collection by St John.

  • Observation

Patients are occasionally retained for observation at Riccarton Clinic in order to carefully monitor their status before deciding whether to refer the patient to hospital or that it is safe for them to go home. As we don't have dedicated observation facilities this is limited to a few hours, usually less than four.

  • Specialists Referrals

Access to specialist health services in the New Zealand public health system is controlled by a process of referral by health practitioners authorised to do so, this includes the GPs at Riccarton Clinic. We maintain excellent links with specialists in public and private practice in Christchurch and will make a referral to them even if you do not normally see a doctor at Riccarton Clinic.
