Our Team
Riccarton Clinic has a large workforce and needs one to fill its roster, being open twelve hours per day and every day of the year. With thirty-four doctors, thirty- eight nurses, ten clinical support staff, thirteen administrators and seventeen reception staff, it's a big team but one which works hard to remain approachable and friendly.

Doctors
Most of our doctors have a group of patients that they see regularly and work closely with to manage their health concerns. In addition all of our doctors take it in turns to see walk-in patients so if you come in on a cold, winters afternoon you may see your normal GP or you may see a doctor you haven't met previously.
Nurses
Some of our nurses come from a background in acute medicine, some from a background in general practice, but within a short while they learn the other aspects of the role at Riccarton Clinic. Some develop a particular interest in a chronic disease and become nurse educators in that field, others become involved in delivery the orthopaedic services.
Reception
Our Reception team are likely to be the first face you meet and the one you say goodbye to when you leave. They are also the ones you will deal with on the phone, they take over 400 calls every day.

Dr Shihomi Ogawa

Dr Shihomi Ogawa is not currently taking on new patients.
Shihomi originally from Japan moved to New Zealand in 2002 where she graduated from Otago University in 2009. After working in a variety of medical areas she joined us at the clinic in 2016.
Shihomi speaks Japanese as well as being fluent in English.
When Shihomi isn't working she likes to unwind by listening to Japanese Music, Cooking and Travel.

Dr James Broadbent

Ruth was born and grew up in rural Australia where she graduated from Newcastle University Australia, working mainly in Queensland and the Northern Territory she moved to New Zealand with her family in 1996.
She has worked in a diverse range of practices including urban, rural/remote, Aboriginal, Pacific Island and University Health Services.
When not working she enjoys the outdoors - tramping, skiing, swimming and gardening.

Dr Elodie Mazoyer

Dr Elodie Mazoyer was born in France and completed her medical degree at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. She has worked in Paris and different African countries doing AID work and research before moving to New Zealand in 2010 with her kiwi partner.
Elodie worked at the Christchurch Hospital having completed a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is interested in a broad range of conditions within General Practice.
Elodie's native language is French but she speaks fluent English and very basic German and Spanish.
When not working, Elodie enjoys outdoors and social activities with her family and friends.

Dr Alisdair Webb

After working within the medical field in the UK he moved to New Zealand in 2001 joining our team at Riccarton Clinic in 2014. He became a director of the Clinic in 2016 and later became a Medical Director in 2020.

Dr Alistair Blomley

Alistair was born in the UK, graduating from Newcastle University in 1994, after undergoing general practice training he then emigrated to Christchurch in 2000 where he has worked in Urgent Care and General Practice. Alistair joined Riccarton Clinic in 2002 and later became a Medical Director in 2009.
His main medical interests are in injury management and other aspects of acute care.
When not at work Alistair enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage children and likes to keep fit by road cycling, mountain biking and running.

Dr Andrew Backhouse

Andrew was born in the UK and graduating from Leeds University in the UK, he came to NZ for a year long OE and loved it so much he came back after completing exams and further training. He found that medicine is a great way to experience working in interesting places, he has worked in Whanganui, Palmerston North, the West Coast, Scotland and now Christchurch. Andrew joined Riccarton Clinic in 2013.
When not hard at work he spends time with his wife and two children. He is keen on outdoor sports such as cycling, tramping, running and kayaking, particularly if the family come too.

Angus was born in the UK but moved to New Zealand when he was still a young child. He graduated from Otago University in 1987, after working in a variety of hospital roles he joined the team at Riccarton Clinic as a GP in 1993. Later he became a director in 2000 when he, Dr David Anderson and Dr Greshame Carr took the business over from Charlie Baycroft and Andrew Gin.
When not working he likes to spend time with his family but also enjoys music, landscaping and is passionate about conservation.

Dr Annie Houldey

Annie is originally from Nottingham in the UK where she graduated from Southampton University in 2012. She has worked in a variety of medical establishments including a busy city hospital, a rural hospital in Ashburton but also has experience in a semi-rural environment as a GP. She joined our team in 2017.

Sneha was born in India and graduated from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India. Sneha emigrated to New Zealand 2011 and has worked in a variety of hospital roles. She joined the team in 2016. Sneha speaks Hindi and is fluent in English.
Sneha likes to unwind by playing basketball, Throw Ball, athletics and Indian dance forms.

Physician Associates (PA) — or "Physician Assistants" as they're known in other parts of the world — are highly-trained medical professionals.
PAs practice medicine in collaboration with and under the license of their supervising Doctors. Their scope of practice varies depending on where they practice and the scope of their supervising doctor(s).
Molly Beal

Molly has recently moved to Christchurch from the UK. She graduated from the University of Leeds in 2020 and has worked in the UK as an A&E doctor before settling in Christchurch.
When not working she enjoys travel and exploring New Zealand.
