COVID-19 Testing

Information about Community Based Assessment Centres, COVID-19 tests and presenting to Urgent Care Centres.

Posted on 24 April 2020 |

Community Based Assessment Centres: As part of the response to COVID-19, nine Community Based Assessment Centres (CBACs) have been set up throughout Canterbury. You must have a referral from your GP or from Healthline to be tested at a CBAC. If you do not have a referral, you will not be tested at a CBAC.

What happens after you have a COVID-19 swab: The results of your COVID-19 swab are usually available 24-48 hours after the swab is taken. If the result is positive, you will be contacted by Community & Public Health and they will begin contact tracing to try to establish a connection with an existing known infected person. If the result is negative, you will be contacted by the staff at the location where your swab was taken.

Urgent Care Centres: If you present to an Urgent Care Centre currently you may be asked to have a swab for COVID-19. This is part of the testing required to see if COVID-19 is being transmitted in the community.
