We're here to help you navigate some important updates as we head toward the new year. Our priority is your wellbeing and making sure you have easy access to care.
Upcoming Changes to Prescription Lengths
The Government is planning to introduce new rules allowing some prescriptions to cover up to 12 months instead of the current 3 months. This change is expected to begin in early 2026, and we’ll keep you updated as further details are confirmed.
What does this mean for you?
- These longer prescriptions will only be available to stable patients and for medications considered safe for extended use.
- Medications like controlled substances will not be included.
- Before you receive a 12-month prescription, you'll need a dedicated appointment for a thorough health review. This helps us ensure your medication remains safe for you and gives us the chance to support your overall wellbeing.
Virtual Consultations
We’re making it even easier for you to connect with your healthcare team. Starting next year, Riccarton Clinic will expand the availability of virtual consultations, giving you greater flexibility to access care from home.
- Virtual appointments are ideal for general health advice, follow-ups, and medication reviews.
- Details on how to book will be shared soon.
We hope this option helps make looking after your health even more convenient.
ADHD Assessments Coming in 2026
We’re excited to announce that Riccarton Clinic plans to offer ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) assessments for adults in the early months of 2026.
What does this mean for you?
- Some of our clinicians have completed specialist training to provide safe, accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Where appropriate, we’ll be able to prescribe ADHD medications following assessment.
- These assessments require specialist knowledge and will not be part of routine GP visits.
- Access will be limited initially, based on clinician availability.
- Costs are still being determined and will reflect the complexity and ongoing support required.
We know healthcare changes can be confusing, so if you have questions about ADHD assessments, please reach out—we’re here to help.
